You have just landed at Incheon International Airport, and Seoul is about 50 kilometers away. Here is the decision ahead of you.
The short answer: the AREX airport railroad is the fastest and most predictable way in. The non-stop Express reaches Seoul Station in 43 minutes from Terminal 1 (51 from Terminal 2) for ₩13,000, while the All-Stop train costs ₩4,750 and takes about an hour. Airport limousine buses cost ₩17,000 and drop you closer to your hotel but depend on traffic. Taxis are door-to-door at ₩65,000 to ₩90,000 or more. Details for each follow.

Which is the fastest way from Incheon Airport to Seoul?
The AREX Express train. It runs non-stop between Incheon Airport and Seoul Station in 43 minutes from Terminal 1 and 51 minutes from Terminal 2, and it never gets stuck in traffic.
The Express has reserved seats, luggage racks, and free Wi-Fi. Trains run roughly every 20 to 40 minutes from about 5:15 AM to 10:40 PM. The adult fare is ₩13,000 at the station (slightly less for members and with advance online booking).
I took the Express from Terminal 1 to Seoul Station last spring. I walked out of Seoul Station exactly 43 minutes after the doors closed, my bag parked in the luggage rack the whole way. If your hotel is near Seoul Station or Myeongdong, or you are connecting to a KTX train, the Express is the natural choice.
One catch: the Express needs its own QR ticket, and your T-money card does not work on it. Buy the ticket at the orange Express machines or the booth on the B1 floor of the terminal.

What is the cheapest way to get into Seoul?
The AREX All-Stop train. It costs ₩4,750 from Terminal 1 to Seoul Station (up to ₩5,350 from Terminal 2) and accepts T-money cards, so there is no separate ticket to buy.
The All-Stop takes about 59 minutes from Terminal 1 and 66 from Terminal 2, running every 5 to 10 minutes from around 5:30 AM until midnight. It stops at genuinely useful stations, including Gimpo Airport, Hongik University (Hongdae), and Gongdeok.
I have used the All-Stop for a Hongdae stay. I tapped my T-money card at the gate, rode straight to Hongik University station with no transfer, and paid a third of the Express fare. Seating is open, like a subway, and luggage space is standard subway level, so it suits manageable bags.

Is the airport limousine bus worth taking?
Yes, if your hotel is far from Seoul Station or your luggage is heavy. The limousine bus trades speed for convenience: it drops you at stops in Myeongdong, Hongdae, Gangnam, City Hall, and other districts, so you may avoid a second transfer entirely.
The adult fare is ₩17,000 (children 6 to 12 pay ₩12,000), and two suitcases ride free in the hold. Travel time is 60 to 90 minutes and depends heavily on traffic, so rush-hour arrivals feel long.
Useful routes include 6015 to Myeongdong, 6002 through Hongdae and Jongno, and 6005 to City Hall. Most routes run from about 5:00 AM to 10:30 PM. Buy your ticket at the kiosks in the arrivals hall, because T-money does not work on the limousine bus at the airport.
Night buses with the N prefix serve a limited set of routes after midnight. If you land very late, check whether one reaches your area before counting on it.

How much does a taxi cost from Incheon Airport to Seoul?
Roughly ₩65,000 to ₩90,000 or more to central Seoul, depending on destination, traffic, tolls, and time of day. There is no single fixed city-wide fare.
The ride takes 60 to 90 minutes. After midnight a late-night surcharge applies, so night trips cost noticeably more. For a family with large bags, a taxi can be reasonable value: one payment for the whole car, door to door.
Use the official taxi stands outside the arrivals hall, and skip anyone who approaches you inside the terminal offering a ride.
What should I do if I arrive late at night?
Plan for a taxi. The AREX Express stops around 10:40 PM, the All-Stop train winds down near midnight, and most limousine buses finish by 10:30 PM.
Only a few night buses run after midnight on limited routes. Treat a taxi as the default backup, and keep your hotel's Korean address on your phone to show the driver.

How do I buy tickets at the airport?
For the trains, follow the yellow Airport Railroad signs to the B1 floor. The All-Stop train takes T-money cards, sold and loaded at convenience stores and station machines. The Express needs a separate QR ticket from the orange machines or booth.
For the limousine bus, buy a paper ticket at the arrivals-hall kiosks before going outside. The driver hands you a claim tag for checked luggage, so keep it until your bags come out.
FAQ
Can I use a T-money card on the AREX Express train?
No. The Express requires its own QR ticket and does not accept T-money. The All-Stop train does. Buying the wrong ticket at the gate is the most common mistake here.
Does the airport limousine bus accept T-money?
Not at Incheon Airport. Buy a ticket at the arrivals-hall kiosks first. On the return trip from Seoul to the airport, T-money and cash usually work fine.
How early do trains start in the morning?
The first Express trains leave the airport around 5:15 AM, and the All-Stop starts around 5:30 AM. If you are heading to the airport for an early flight, allow buffer on top of the ride for check-in and security.
Which terminal am I arriving at, and does it matter?
It adds about 8 minutes. Terminal 2 is farther from Seoul, so every option runs longer than from Terminal 1. Korean Air and Delta use Terminal 2; most other international airlines use Terminal 1.
How much luggage can I take on the limousine bus?
Two suitcases per adult ride free in the hold, up to about 20 kg each. A third bag usually costs around ₩8,000 extra. AREX trains have no formal limit, but keep bags out of aisles on the All-Stop train.
